Many people immediately associate diving in
Australia with the Great Barrer Reef but it worth remembering
that Western Australia has tropical waters and coral reefs
as well. In fact at Ningaloo the fringing reef is easily accessible
by snorkelling. There is also the attraction of seeing whale
sharks at certain times of the year. Diving is carried out
all along the west coast and the warm Leeuwin current carries
down fish and invertebrates to latitudes not normally associated
with these species. Excellent diving can be had off Rottnest
Island near Perth and further south the submarine pilings
of Busselton Jetty are a riot of colour. In the clear waters
at Dunsborough one can dive the Swan a naval vessel sunk intentionally
for divers to enjoy.
