The Red Sea - Back
All our diving in the Red Sea has been made in the relatively
unvisited region south of Marsa Alam with Red
Sea Diving Safari. This Egyptian based company has been
running diving holidays in this region for more than a decade.
Although development along the coast has removed some of the
air of remoteness visits to this area engendered one can still
experience the 'frontier spirit' by sleeping in tents a stone's
throw from the waters edge. One can dip into the house reef
at any time of day but truck safaris give a vast range of
dive sites up and down the coast from camp. Off shore sites
such as Dolphin Home reef and Elphinstone are now accessible
by hard boat.
The images below are of our visit in February
2003
Marsa Shagra and Marsa Nakari
The next group of images were taken since
March 2006. Wadi Lahmi is the furthest south of the three
Ecovillages run by Red Sea Diving Safari and lies not far
from the prominent peninsula of Ras Banas on the border with
Sudan. The diving here is from fast RIB's on the reefs of
Fury Shoal. The coral scenery can only be described as spectacular
with caves, canyons and drop offs. There are a couple of small
wrecks to be visited. Wadi Lahmi is situated beside a small
mangrove swamp which makes for good bird watching between
dives.
